Shillong, May 30: Health Minister, A.L. Hek said the six-party coalition Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government will remain stronger and last for full five years term.

“The MDA is strong and will complete full five years because we are here to stay and govern the state,” Hek told reporters here on Wednesday, while reacting to the recent statement made by the Congress leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma that the MDA government led by the NPP is just an “adhoc government”.

Hek, who is the BJP MLA from Pynthorumkhrah constituency, said that the Congress would keep on trying (toppling the government) but “We (all MDA partners) are going to stay together. We are working with all like-minded political parties against the Congress.”

The MDA government led by chief minister, Conrad K Sangma comprised of the NPP (20) United Democratic Party (6), People’s Democratic Front (4), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (2), BJP (2), Nationalist Congress Party (1) and Independents.

Commenting on the Ampati bye-election where counting of votes will be held on Thursday, Hek claimed that NPP candidate, Clement G Momin who was supported by the MDA coalition will emerge the winner.

Momin entered the fray for the bye election with Congress candidate, Miani D. Shira who is also an eldest daughter of Mukul Sangma, and Independent candidate, Subhakar Koch.

Ampati has been a strong hold of Mukul who represented the constituency continuously for 25 years since 1993. Mukul gave up the Ampati seat after he was also elected as the MLA of Songsak in February this year.
