Pynter Village, May 15: Grief-stricken father Netnobiweit Khongsdoh on Friday recounted the traumatic moment he saw the blood-stained body of his son, late Trophimos Khongmawloh, whose death has triggered a murder investigation into an alleged mob assault at Pynter village under the Pynursla Civil Sub-Division.

Speaking to reporters, Netnobiweit Khongsdoh rejected claims circulating in public that his 27-year-old son had died after consuming a poisonous substance locally known as “ïit.” He questioned the basis of such allegations and asserted that he firmly believes his son died due to physical assault, citing visuals allegedly seen in a video that has since surfaced publicly.

“My son’s head and face were covered in blood,” the father said while narrating the condition in which he found the body after removing the coverings placed over it.

According to him, he was not present during the alleged incident as he was staying separately in another house and had no knowledge about what led to the assault. He said he was informed about his son’s death only on the morning of May 8, which came as a major shock to the family.

The bereaved father further alleged that upon reaching the place where the body was kept, he noticed blood marks on the face and head of the deceased. Overwhelmed by the sight, he said he could not continue examining the body and instead asked his younger brother to handle the remaining formalities.

Netnobiweit Khongsdoh also claimed that he was denied an opportunity to have a final look at his son during the burial, alleging that by the time he arrived at the graveyard, the coffin had already been sealed by the village authorities.

The case pertains to the death of late Trophimos Khongmawloh, a resident of Pynter village, who allegedly died after being assaulted inside the Dorbar Hall of the village on the night of April 7, 2026.

Following the incident, the victim’s father lodged an FIR at Sadar Police Station on May 8, alleging that his son was beaten to death by a group of villagers. The FIR reportedly named the Rangbah Shnong of Pynter village, Fullmoon Khongsdoh, along with members of the Village Defence Party (VDP) and others, as accused in the case.

Police have since registered a murder case and initiated a detailed investigation. Vivek Syiem earlier informed that 11 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the case, while police have also sought court permission to exhume the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The victim’s father has appealed to law enforcement authorities to carry out a fair and thorough investigation and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
