Shillong, May 15: The Meghalaya Film Makers Association (MFMA) has strongly condemned and expressed outrage over the alleged molestation of a Khasi woman by a member of a Telugu film crew from Andhra Pradesh that had come to Meghalaya for shooting.
Speaking to media persons, MFMA President Commander Shangpliang strongly condemned the accused identified as Raj Kumar. The incident reportedly occurred when the woman had gone to take shelter from the rain at the location where the film shooting was taking place.
Commander Shangpliang informed that the victim has already lodged an FIR with the police, and the police have issued a summon to Raj Kumar.
“The police should take this matter seriously,” he said, adding that if the accused fails to appear after being summoned, the police should immediately arrest him so that legal action can be taken according to the law.
When asked about allegations that some people were attempting to settle or compromise the matter through monetary arrangements, Commander Shangpliang said he had no knowledge about such developments. However, he strongly condemned any Khasi individuals who may be involved in such acts. He also warned that local line producers must prioritize the safety and security of the indigenous community.
“If such incidents continue, our association will completely ban outside film crews from coming to Meghalaya for shooting,” he warned.
MFMA Vice President Lansius Syiemlieh also strongly condemned the incident and termed it unfortunate. He urged all producers to ensure the safety and security of artists, especially women artistes.
He further stated that during night shoots, producers must make proper arrangements to safely escort female artists to their places of stay.
