NPP legislator asks police to verify facts on call centre ‘scam’

Shillong, Sept 11: Opposition National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday said it was wrong on the part of the police to bring out names when the investigation into the Internal Revenue Service call centre scam is still going on.

“Investigation into the matter is going on and it is wrong to bring out the names of people especially a person who is a public figure,” NPP spokesperson James K Sangma said here.

He was reacting to the recent statement made the SP of East Khasi Hills District Davis N Marak that police would also question the Tura MP, Conrad K. Sangma as to how the fraudulent call centre was established at his premises.

James further asked the police to verify the facts because the SS Net Com had rented its place after completing all the necessary verification of the documents.

He said that SS Net Com is cooperating with the investigating agency. “We hope that the guilty are brought to book,” he said.

As more people have been arrested in the massive call centre scam in the city, Shillong Police at a later stages would question Tura MP Conrad Sangma as to how the fraudulent call centre was established at his premises.

So far, police have arrested 11 persons involved in the scam. Recently two were arrested and they have been identified as Dawanemi Lyngdoh, 23, of Ladmuthlong-Lumbyrdi and Minot Khongkai, 25, of Amlarem-Padu in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
