‘Rock the Red Ribbon Superstar Meghalaya Icon, 2019’ to be held on December 14

Shillong, Nov 29: The unplugged competition for the title ‘Rock the Red Ribbon Superstar Meghalaya Icon, 2019’ will be held in Shillong on December 14.

The competition will be organized by the Opus Production in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS).

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Assistant Director of IEC, MACS Alexander Kharkongor said the competition will not only provide a platform for talented artists and bands but it is to create awareness among the youth about HIV/AIDs through music.

“That is why we have kept ‘know your status’ – as this year’s theme for the eighth edition of the competition. We want to encourage the youth to come forward for HIV testing,” Kharkongor said.

Meban Warjri from the Opus Production said that the winner of the competiton will also get to represent the state in the 2nd North East Multimedia Campaign to be held in Imphal.

He informed that the preliminary rounds will be held on December 12 (for bands from Shillong, Ri Bhoi and Jaintia Hills) and December 13 (for Garo Hills and outstation bands) while the grand finale will be held on December 14.

The winner of the Meghalaya Icon will take away cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while the runner’s up will get Rs 50,000 besides Rs 5,000 for best song on HIV/AIDS.

According to him, over 30 bands are expected to participate in the competition.
