Shillong, October 6: Nangkiew Irat and Meghalaya Police played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here on Tuesday, with Nangkiew securing a late equaliser to end their campaign on a positive note.
Meghalaya Police took the lead through Everestarly Rynjah in the 12th minute, but Nangkiew Irat responded almost immediately as Yhoto Lohe converted from a corner in the 13th minute.
MLP regained the advantage in the 21st minute when Rapborlang Marwein found the net with a long-range effort.
Nangkiew Irat continued to threaten, with Nikelson Bina forcing Meghalaya Police goalkeeper Eveningstar Bareh into a fingertip save. Edyvenson Dhar also appeared to have levelled the contest, but his effort was ruled offside.
Nangkiew continued to push after the break, forcing Meghalaya Police to spend much of the second half defending. Their persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute, when Neblejohn Lyngdoh headed a cross into the net to make it 2-2.
The result leaves Nangkiew Irat on nine points, level with Sawmer, while Meghalaya Police moved to 11 points with one match still to play. The top six teams will qualify for the upcoming SSA Super Cup.
For Nangkiew, the match marked the end of their SPL campaign, with the team now having to wait for the remaining results to determine their final position and relegation status.
Mawlai Face Rangdajied in Title Decider
Attention now turns to Wednesday’s crucial encounter between leaders Mawlai and Rangdajied United, scheduled for 3pm.
Mawlai enter the match with 18 points from eight games and need a victory to secure their third SPL title, having previously lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2023.
The situation carries memories of the previous two seasons. In 2025, Mawlai also needed a win against Rangdajied United on the final day to claim the title, but a 1-1 draw handed the championship to Langsning.
A year earlier, Mawlai went into the final day needing only a point against Shillong Lajong, but lost the match as Lajong went on to win the title.
Mawlai will again be led by experienced coach Hering Shangpliang, with several players from those campaigns still part of the squad, including Fairming Suting, Damanbhalang Chyne, Arkibor Makhroh, Samlang Rympei, Kevin Rymbai and Robertson Khongriah.
Wednesday’s result will therefore either see Mawlai lift the trophy or keep the title race alive for the remaining matches.
