Guwahati, April 4: In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has been awarded the prestigious Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) Platinum – Class I Rating, marking a major milestone in its green initiatives.

The recognition highlights the airport’s robust waste management system, which has achieved an exceptional waste diversion rate of over 99.9 percent. By effectively preventing waste from reaching landfills, the airport has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable operations.

Officials stated that the achievement is the result of the comprehensive implementation of the 5R principles—Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, and Recover—across various airport functions. These practices have enabled efficient handling, segregation, and processing of waste generated within the airport premises.

With this accomplishment, LGBIA becomes the fifth airport under Adani Airports Holdings Limited to secure the ZWL Platinum distinction, joining the ranks of airports in Trivandrum, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Lucknow. The milestone reflects a broader push by the group towards environmentally responsible airport operations across India.

Further strengthening its sustainability framework, the airport has also attained Level L3 traceability of diverted waste streams, ensuring transparency and accountability in waste processing and disposal mechanisms.

The latest recognition positions LGBIA as a frontrunner in sustainable aviation infrastructure, setting a benchmark for other airports in the region and beyond.
