Shillong, Oct 15: The Congress has re-constituted the Umroi Mahila Congress Committee by electing new office bearers during a meeting held at Umroi Labansaro on Saturday.

Nearly one thousand women folk from different polling booths of Umroi Constituency attended the meeting and participated in the election in the presence of leaders of the State Mahila Congress Committee and Congress candidate, George B. Lyngdoh and other leaders of the Umroi Block Congress Committee.
The meeting unanimously elected Rikynti Syiem as the president, and Iohlinda Malngiang as general secretary. Six vice presidents – Esternlin Kharsati, Albina Marpan, Meshilda Lyngdoh, Probina Pasi, Dreamtimai Makri, and Rosalin Kharmawlong were elected, besides Iaishah Rymbai as joint secretary, and assistant secretaries – Tipsngi Lapang, Ibashanti Lamarai, Aitidora Teron, Ridalin Mawlong and Ritalis Nongrum.

Bethelda Lapang was elected as (treasurer), while Rose Rymmai, Hunlang Mukhim and Veronika Lyngdoh were chosen as advisers. Executive members include presidents and secretaries from the eight area committees of the constituency.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized the need to bring change in the constituency by electing a representative who can make laws and policies for the benefit of the people and overall development in the constituency and the state as a whole.
They also decided to spread the message to the nooks and corners of the constituency to denounce money power during election and vote for Lyngdoh as the MLA of Umroi, who can make laws and policies for the interest of the state and the constituency.
In his speech, Lyngdoh thanked the women who came to the meeting which has inspired him and the party, while seeking their support in the upcoming election.
Reminding the work of his father and former chief minister, late E.K. Mawlong who had represented Umroi constituency, Lyngdoh assured the people of Umroi that if elected, he would work hard to uplift the constituency which still requires a lot of development, and find out ways and means for providing livelihood to the people including the youth and the poor.
Lyngdoh also urged the people of Umroi to choose their representative with conscience and not to be influenced by money, so that the MLA they elected can work freely for overall development of the constituency.
