Shillong, Jan 27: The ruling Congress which has five women legislators in the 60-member Assembly is fielding six women candidates in the upcoming Assembly polls slated for February 26.
In the 2013 Assembly polls, Congress got four women MLAs – Ampareen Lyngdoh, Deborah C. Marak, Roshan Warjri, and Dikkanchi D. Shira.
The ruling party got another woman MLA, Bluebell R. Sangma who won the beye-election from Chokpot constituency held on June 27, 2015 after the demise of GNC leader, Clifford R. Marak.
However in 2018, the Congress is fielding six women candidates even as Bluebell R. Sangma did not join the electoral battle this time.
The six women candidates include PWD (buildings) minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh (East Shillong), School Education minister, Deborah C Marak (Williamnagar), chief minister’s wife, Dikkanchi D. Shira (Mahendraganj), Sadhiarani Sangma (Gambegre), Eureka F.P. Lyngdoh (Mairang) and Wanjop Susngi (Raliang).
In the place Bluebell R. Sangma the Congress has decided to field Lazarus Sangma as the candidate from Chokpot.
