HYC circulates anti-BJP leaflet

Shillong, Feb 13: The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC), one of the anti-influx groups in the state, has circulated anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaflet urging the people to reject the saffron party in the coming Assembly polls.

The Council in its 16-point leaflet had pointed out that one of the reasons for the people of the state not to vote in favour of the BJP is because of its alleged closeness with the RSS and move to promote ‘one country, one religion’ besides being anti-minority.

According to the HYC general secretary Robertjune Kharjahrin, the decision to distribute the leaflet was also after the BJP had failed to come out clear on its stand with regards to the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and other anti-influx laws in the state.

Accusing the BJP of adopting a double-standard attitude towards the issue, Kharjahrin told reporters here on Tuesday that while in Assam, the BJP has implemented the National Register for Citizens (NRC) but at the Centre, it has brought the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2016.

“While it is rejecting Muslims from Bangladesh, but it is welcoming Hindus who are from Bangladesh to get citizenship in the country,” he said.

Holding the BJP equally responsible for the age-old unresolved boundary dispute with Assam, Kharjahrin said despite being in the ruling in Assam, yet there are no signs of seriousness on the part of the BJP to resolve this issue.

Meanwhile, the HYC also slammed the BJP for delaying the passing of the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2015 which seeks to empower the traditional institutions and heads in the region.

“The VAB is lying pending with the Ministry of Home Affairs; the blame should go to the BJP as it is in ruling at the Centre. It has failed to direct the Governor to speed up giving his assent on the Bill,” he said.

Kharjahrin further stated that the people should not vote for the BJP because it has not come up clear with regards to mining of uranium while also accusing the party of supporting the implementation of railway lines in the state.

The Council also charged the saffron party for attempting to bring a Uniform Civil Code which according to it will dilute all the customary laws besides opposing its move against Article 370 and 371 of the Constitution of India.

He also said that 8 of the 9 BJP ruled states have passed the anti-conversion law and it is also this party which rakes up beef controversy in the country.

“It also attempts to do away with the word ‘secular’ from the preamble of the Indian constitution,” he said while also charging the saffron of failing to come up with strong anti-corruption law.
