Ri Bhoi, June 10: Young Meghalaya footballer Ribansi Jammu was felicitated by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Ri Bhoi Sepngi following her return from representing India in the 2026 SAFF Women’s Championship.
The championship was held in Goa from May 25 to June 6, 2026. Ribansi, who served as goalkeeper for the Indian national team, hails from Mynnar Jirang in Ri Bhoi District and is only 17 years old.
During the felicitation programme held on Wednesday, HYC Ri Bhoi Sepngi leaders led by RC Thangkhiew and P. Makri, along with members of the organisation, presented a cash award and a token of appreciation to the young goalkeeper in recognition of her achievement and for bringing honour to her village, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya and the country.
Speaking to the media, Ribansi reflected on her journey to the national team, describing it as a path filled with challenges and obstacles. She said that through determination, hard work and perseverance, she was able to overcome difficulties and achieve her dream of representing India at the international level.
Expressing pride in representing both Meghalaya and the nation on such a prestigious stage, she encouraged young people to remain focused on their goals, work diligently and never lose hope despite the challenges they may face.
HYC leaders congratulated Ribansi on her accomplishment and wished her continued success in her football career, expressing confidence that she would continue to inspire aspiring sportspersons across Meghalaya through her dedication and achievements.
