Rapborlang Marwein Scores and Assists as Police Move Top of Standings
Shillong, August 18: Meghalaya Police produced the first major upset of the Shillong Premier League 2026, defeating reigning champions Langsning 2-1 at the SSA Stadium here on Tuesday.
Rapborlang Marwein put Meghalaya Police ahead in the 44th minute before setting up Aldrin Ramsiej for the second goal in the 89th minute. Langsning substitute Rohan Manar pulled one back in the third minute of stoppage time, but the champions could not find an equaliser.
The result gave Meghalaya Police their first win of the season after their opening-round 1-1 draw against Rangdajied United, taking them to four points and the top of the standings. Langsning remain on three points from their opening-round 1-0 victory over Sawmer.
Langsning Struggle to Find Rhythm
Both sides made several changes to their starting line-ups after a lengthy gap between their first-round matches.
Meghalaya Police brought in Niawkorlang Kyndiah and Balmingstar Lyngkhoi, while Langsning made four changes, introducing Nister Roy Suting, Richie Kharbani, Chusrang Sangma and Samuel Phawa.
Coming off their Durand Cup 2026 exit, Langsning were cautious in the opening half and created relatively few opportunities. Richie Kharbani headed wide in the 32nd minute before being denied by Meghalaya Police goalkeeper Eveningstar Bareh moments later.
Meghalaya Police looked the more threatening side and took the lead just before half-time. Rapborlang’s free-kick from the left flank bounced into the box and went directly into the net, with Langsning goalkeeper Nister unable to react after being screened by a teammate attempting to clear the ball.
Police Continue to Attack
Rather than sit back after taking the lead, Meghalaya Police continued to look for a second.
In the 48th minute, Rapborlang combined with Everestarly Rynjah, who flicked the ball into his path. Rapbor advanced down the right but went too deep, allowing a Langsning defender to recover and block his attempt.
Langsning’s Durand Cup standout Syed Ahmed, who had scored four goals in the tournament, was largely kept quiet. His best opportunity came with a second-half header that was comfortably collected by Eveningstar.
Both teams then missed chances. Mebanshngain Kurkalang headed Kyrmenskhem Mukhim’s cross over the bar, while Meghalaya Police’s Pynshaidor Nongrang failed to capitalise after being presented with an opportunity by the Langsning defence.
Late Double Blow for Champions
Meghalaya Police finally doubled their advantage in the 89th minute.
Rapborlang broke forward and found himself facing three defenders before spotting an unmarked Aldrin Ramsiej arriving on the left. He slipped the ball across to Aldrin, who calmly fired past Nister.
Langsning responded almost immediately. Rohan Manar’s low finish in the 90th+3 minute reduced the deficit and gave the champions hope of salvaging a point.
However, Meghalaya Police held firm through the remaining moments to secure a memorable victory.
