SHILLONG, MAY 20: Speaker Thomas A Sangma on Wednesday expressed confidence that the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building would be completed on schedule, after an internal review meeting found construction work to be “satisfactory.”
The review was held at Mawdiangdiang under the Speaker’s chairmanship and attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, consultants, the Project Management Consultant (PMC), and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), IT Cell, and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Assembly Secretary Malthus S Sangma and Adviser (Legislation) Dr Andrew Simons were also present during the detailed assessment of ongoing works.
“Following the assessment, the Speaker stated that the progress of work was found to be satisfactory and expressed confidence that the construction of the new Assembly building would be completed within the stipulated time frame,” an official statement said. Speaker on Roof Video
The Speaker also responded to a video on the Assembly roof that recently went viral online.
“The Speaker said the matter had been blown out of proportion and described the development as unfortunate,” the statement noted.
He added that while feedback is welcome, it should be factual.
“While appreciating and welcoming constructive criticism, Thomas A Sangma urged members of the public to refrain from sharing or posting unverified content that may create misconceptions and bring disrepute to the institution of the Legislative Assembly.”
