The workshop brought together students, legal professionals and traffic officials to promote awareness of responsible road use and compliance with traffic regulations. It focused on the legal framework governing road safety and the responsibilities of motorists, passengers and other road users.

Director of the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy, Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri, welcomed the participants and underscored the need to create greater awareness of road safety laws, particularly among young road users.

The workshop covered common traffic violations and their legal consequences, the importance of helmets and seat belts, and the e-Challan system. Participants also discussed road accident prevention and investigation, safe driving practices and the use of technology to improve road safety.

The participants were introduced to modern traffic-management technologies, including Intelligent Traffic Management Systems, CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, AI-based traffic monitoring, speed-enforcement mechanisms and emergency response systems.

An interactive Road Safety Quiz was also organised, covering traffic signs, road rules, accident scenarios and traffic-related issues specific to Meghalaya. The activity allowed participants to test their knowledge while discussing practical road safety concerns.

The Traffic Branch also set up information stalls where participants interacted with officials and learnt about traffic enforcement measures, road safety practices and technology-enabled traffic management.

The workshop concluded with a Road Safety Ambassador Pledge, reinforcing the message that safer roads depend on responsible behaviour, awareness and respect for traffic laws by every road user.
