NPP-led MDA Govt prefers full budget

Shillong, Mar 12: The National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government is likely to present a full budget in the upcoming budget session of the Assembly for the state for the year 2018-19.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma told reporters during the break of the long-hour Cabinet meeting here on Monday that the governor’s address to be delivered on the inaugural day of the budget session was discussed.

He also said that the Cabinet was looking at the possibility of presenting a full budget, instead of a vote-on-account.

“The Cabinet was going through in details the governor’s address after which, the cabinet will give its approval and send to the governor for his assent,” he said.

When asked if his government would table a vote-on-account, Conrad said, “We would like to prepare the budget for the whole year as we cannot have a three-month budget, and then again prepare another nine-month budget. We will decide whether to go for a three-month vote on account or full budget, though we are in favour of going for a full fledged budget so that the work can start and we can move immediately.”
