Shillong, Oct 11: Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said that the National People’s Party (NPP) would not win many seats, its number in Assembly would continue to remain single digit.
At present, the NPP has only two legislators in the 60-member Assembly.
“I am amused by the comments of the NPP that they have become so strong that they can defeat everyone. But as far as NPP is concerned, I assure you that they will remain a single digit in the state,” Mukul told reporters on Wednesday.
Mukul reiterated that the state would have a “very strong and stable government” next year after the election.
He also termed Tynsong and others leaving the Congress as “habitual dissidents” and alleged them of acting as agents of other parties by trying to topple the government as well as attempt remove the Speaker few years ago.
Senior Congress legislators like former deputy chief minister, Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Ngaidlang Dhar are set to leave Congress and seek re-election in the upcoming Assembly election on NPP ticket.
“They are habitual dissidents and for whose interest they have been dissidents all these years? That’s why the party wanted to get rid of such people who created a situation that does not doo good for the state,” Mukul said.
